William Leo Ames Obituary

William Leo Ames, 71, of Weatherford and Preston, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the V. A. Hospital Service in Dallas.. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 5 at the Beulah Baptist Church of Weatherford where he was a member.. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.. Leo was born March 15, 1944, in Weatherford to Amos C. Ames and Jewell Langley Ames.. He was a basketball star for Millsap High School during the years of 1960 to 1963. He was on the All-State basketball team his senior year (1963). He was a big fan of all sports.. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.. He worked many different jobs, including carpentry, farming and general labor.. Leo is survived by his brothers, Edward Ames and wife, Rachel, Roger Ames, Jerry Ames and wife, Mary, all of Weatherford; his sisters, Nelda Corder and Joyce Ames, both of Weatherford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends; his very special friends, Johnny and Ellen Smethers and their daughters Lana, Amy and Amanda, of Millsap, and Morgan and Deb Trinkle, of Kansas.. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wilson Ames; and sisters, Jeannette Newberry and Willie Malone.
