Walter G. Alvis, 79, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 6, 2006, in Fort Worth.
Walter was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Desdemona, the son of John and Edna Alvis. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1983 after 33 years of service. Walter served in WW II and later served for three years in the Air Force stationed in Japan. Mr. Alvis lived in Springtown since 1957. He was a member of Outreach of Love Church for 45 years before becoming a charter member of Cornerstone Community Church in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Alvis of Boyd; sons, James Alvis of Springtown, Dwayne and Gaylon Alvis of Paradise; step-sons, Richard Bentley of Schertz, Stephen Bentley of Joshua, Scott Bentley of Boyd; step-daughter, Joyce James of Joshua; seven grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Community Church. Burial will follow in Springtown Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home.
