Tom was born September 29, 1931, during the depression in Fort Worth. He lived in what was then Irish Town, later to be called the "3rd Ward". This neighborhood was located across the railroad tracks just east of the Santa Fe Depot which is now IH35 north of the mix-master. Tom was proud to have been raised in modest surroundings as he felt it molded him for later in life.

Graduate of Laneri Catholic High School which preceded Nolan High School. Laneri also helped mold him educationally. He attended Arlington State (now UT Arlington), TCU and Hardin-Simmons.

The Korean War started, and Tom enlisted in the US Air Force serving 3 years.

Following his discharge, he met and married Nora Jane McDonald, his wife of 67 years. They were blessed with three children, Tom Jr., Rhonda and Elizabeth.

Tom began his lifetime career in insurance in 1955 which he thoroughly enjoyed until he retired in 2001. He continued in a consulting role for several years after retirement.

Tom was always civically active in the community. He was elected City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem in Abilene. He was also appointed to the planning and zoning board in Round Rock and to the Board of Directors of the Hudson Oaks Emergency Service District. His family looks back with admiration at what he loved most which was his service as a United Methodist lay minister. He served churches in the small communities of Ovalo and Bradshaw, Texas. He loved the Lord and was always studying and teaching the word.

While attending college just after marrying he served as assistant football coach at Laneri and for several years he coached little league and church league basketball, where he touched many lives.

Hobbies included reading, golf, sketching pictures and watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas cowboys, and Nora's favorite, Dallas Mavericks.

Tom and Nora were members of First United Methodist of Weatherford.

Tom was preceded in death by parents, Tom and Vallie Loughrey; sister, Rebecca Hammack; and son-in-law, Barry Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Loughrey; son, Tom Loughrey Jr. and wife Becky; daughters, Rhonda Shaw, Elizabeth Beck and husband Regan.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Matt Loughrey and wife, Kendall, Meagan Loughrey, Clayton and Dalton Shaw; and three great-grandchildren, Kase, Kenna and Holt Loughrey. Tom dearly loved his family.
