It is with deep sorrow but also with gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Richard Scoggin, a devoted husband, father, Poppy and friend, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 61.
Richard was born on January 26, 1964, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to James and Jackie Scoggin, and grew up primarily in Palestine, Texas. An athlete and lifelong sports enthusiast, Richard dedicated his life to loving and serving others whether through education and athletics or through volunteering with the youth in church. Richard was a strong leader and led a life of influence that impacted many. He imparted wisdom and diplomacy as a counselor but was also the energy in the room with his boisterous personality and love of life.
Richard was a loving and faithful husband and best friend to his cherished wife, Kim, for 38 years. Together, they built a strong marriage rooted in faith, prayer, and mutual respect. His devotion to her was a testament to God's love, and their bond was an example for all who knew them.
As a father, Richard led his children with love and wisdom, always encouraging and supporting them in their endeavors and building them up in values such as hard work, integrity, excellence, and humility. His children, Brooks, Chelsea, and Tyler, were his greatest pride, and his love for them was undisputable.
To his grandchildren, Asher, Staley, Maddyn, Haven, Kyla, and Sutton, he was known as "Poppy," and he cherished every moment spent with them. His legacy of faith, love, and joy will live on in their hearts, as he continually doted on them with a love and tenderness that was second to none.
Throughout his life, Richard lived a life exemplified by the words of Scripture: "But the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). His acts of kindness and his dedication to his family and community were all reflections of the love of Christ working through him.
Richard is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, where there are no more tears, no more pain, and only peace and joy. He was preceded in death by his father, James Scoggin; mother, Jackie Scoggin; sister, Lisa Scoggin; and father-in-law, Garry Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim; children, Brooks Scoggin (AnnaChristen), Chelsea Fikac (Jerod), and Tyler Scoggin (Alexa); grandchildren, Asher Fikac, Staley Scoggin, Maddyn Fikac, Haven Scoggin, Kyla Scoggin, and Sutton Scoggin; brothers, David Scoggin (Amanda) and Jimmy Scoggin (Missy); mother-in-law, Betty Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, all of whom are comforted by the knowledge that he is now in the arms of Jesus.
Visitation to celebrate Richard's life will be held on Monday, March 24th, at 12:00 p.m., at North Side Baptist Church, in Weatherford, Texas, with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the North Side Baptist Church Student Ministries in Richard's memory, honoring his lifelong faith and service to others.
"Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). We take comfort in knowing that Richard is at rest in the loving arms of our Lord, awaiting the glorious resurrection. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
