Doctor Richard Walter Hoefelmann (Doc, Ric, Dr H) Obituary

Weatherford, Texas - Richard Walter Hoefelmann of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on

April 20, 2026, just two months shy of his 80th birthday.

Born on June 13 in St. Louis, Missouri, Richard was known and loved

by many. Depending on how you knew him, he answered to Dr.

Hoefelmann, Ric, Doc, Dr. H, Papa, Dad, or—by his wife—"Richie

Baby." He was a familiar sight running long distances at all hours of

the day and night, sneaking in ice cream and naps at Braum's, or

delivering babies—quite possibly someone in your own family.

After serving in the Army, Richard pursued his passion for helping

others. He earned a double major in Spanish and biology and

received his bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University,

where he met the love of his life, his Spanish lab instructor, Sydney.

After earning his medical degree from UT Southwestern, Richard

and Sydney married and moved to New Orleans, where he completed

his residency in obstetrics and gynecology.

With a deep commitment to both medicine and community, Richard

and Sydney chose to join his parents in Mineral Wells, Texas, where

they settled and built a life of service for over 40 years. There, he

established his practice. With an unparallel support system of

nurses, doctors and colleagues he became a trusted and familiar

presence to generations of families. With his signature wry wit and

deeply compassionate spirit, he had a way of making people feel both

cared for and at ease. He found joy in spending time with family,

running, serving his church, visiting national parks, and listening to

big band music.

Richard is survived by his children: Sylvia Hoefelmann; Steven

Hoefelmann and his wife Lara; and Alicia Harrington and her

husband Blake. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren—

Sierra, Jaysen, Juliet, Margot, Jett, Sally Jane, and Miles—who will

carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sydney Rogers Hoefelmann;

his sister, Barbara Ferguson; and his parents, June and Charles

Hoefelmann.

A service will be held at First Christian Church of Mineral Wells on

May 9 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, humor, and service that

will not be forgotten.
