Monica Jeanette (Grubaugh) Westbrook Obituary
Monica Jeanette (Grubaugh) Westbrook, 57, was born on September 28, 1964, in Mineral Wells, Texas. She passed from this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Prosper, Texas, surrounded by her family.
A private graveside service was held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Walnut Bend, Texas, under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral home located in Gainesville, Texas. David Gaddy of Savoy, Texas, officiated.
Monica attended Mineral Wells schools, beginning with Wanda O'Bannon's private kindergarten, Little Red Schoolhouse. After being inducted into the National Honor Society, she graduated with honors from Mineral Wells High School in 1983. She was also in the Mineral Wells High School choir. She took VOE (Vocational Office Education) and was employed at Perry Equipment Corporation.
Her love of music started at an early age, starting with piano lessons at age five from her mother. Her second piano teacher was Mrs. Kate Lamkin in Weatherford, Texas, who was also Monica's mother's piano teacher when she was in school in Millsap, Texas. Monica furthered her piano training under Mrs. Sanders, in Mineral Wells, Texas. Her interest in music led her to begin playing the guitar, which she did throughout her teenage years and beyond. Monica also learned to knit at age five. This began her lifelong love of crafts such as tole painting, quilting, embroidery, sewing, and furniture restoration.
Monica met the love of her life, Dee Westbrook, at a church camp meeting in 1983, and the two were married on June 1, 1985, in Sherman, Texas, and were happily married until his death in 2014. She was devoted to her husband and their three daughters, Meghann, Emily, and DeLynn. She and Dee together trained them to be devoted to God and to become Christ followers.
Since her husband, Dee, and their three daughters all attended Callisburg, Texas schools, she decided to become a substitute teacher there and did that for many years which led her to become a certified teacher's aide. In January of 2020, after surviving breast cancer the first time, she went back to school and became a licensed dental assistant.
Monica is survived by her three daughters: Meghann Jeanette Westbrook of Fort Worth; Emily Ann Fields and husband Landon Fields of Alva, Oklahoma; and DeLynn Beth Farrar and husband Matthew Farrar of Prosper, Texas. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Addison Grace Fields and future grandson, Lane Dee Fields, both of Alva, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her mother, Doris Jeanette Ashley, of Sherman, Texas, and two brothers, Linc Grubaugh and Payton Grubaugh, both of Sherman; her father and mother-in-law, Doyle and Dean Westbrook of Callisburg, Texas; her sisters-in-law, Sherlynn Finch and husband Everett Finch, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, and Deanna Farr and husband Calvin Farr of Callisburg, Texas; her nephew Clint Finch and wife Carlie Finch of Kingston Springs, Tennessee; her niece Holly McNeely and husband Clay McNeely, and her great-niece, Anika McNeely and great-nephew, Ari McNeely, all of Hereford, Texas. She is also survived by her uncle Darrell Ashley, and step-aunt Thelma Ashley, of Brock, Texas; cousins Scott Ashley and wife Risa Ashley, of Midlothian, Texas; Guin Purcell and husband Lane Purcell, of Mineral Wells, Texas; and Earl Ashley and wife Maureen Ashley, of Pottsboro, Texas.
Monica was preceded in death by her husband, Dee Westbrook, of Callisburg, Texas, and by her maternal grandparents, Hugh and Esta Lea Ashley, of Mineral Wells, Texas.
Monica was laid to rest in the Sharrock Cemetery in Walnut Bend, Texas, alongside her husband.
