Martha Jane (Ragle) Gagnon Obituary

Weatherford, Texas - In the early morning hours of October 8, 2020, Martha Jane (Ragle) Gagnon passed away at home surrounded by loving family after a brief, brave battle with multiple myeloma. She was 78 years old.

Martha was born May 29, 1942 to Reuben and Josie Ragle of the Dicey community in Weatherford, Texas. She was the second youngest of eight children. She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1960. She worked in accounting for the Mutual Building and Loan in Weatherford, and the U.S. Department of the Army in Mineral Wells, before becoming a military wife to Major Ray H. Bailey, moving to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, then Ft. McPherson, Georgia, and becoming a devoted mother to her "miracle baby," daughter Angela. In 1978, she began a successful 26-year career for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working in Fort Worth, TX, Washington. D.C. at USACE Headquarters (1988-1994), and Dallas, TX, before retiring with honors in 2004.

Martha was a strong, independent woman with a generous soul and huge heart. She was a loving Christian, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and friend. She was an avid crocheter; an extremely talented seamstress; often making clothes from scratch; a wonderful cook; handywoman; and enthusiastic gardener. She loved singing old church hymns, collecting photographs, meeting new people, giving gifts, and making people laugh. She loved and lived fiercely, doing nothing less than 110%. After retiring, Martha enjoyed volunteering at the hospital with the babies, petsitting, entertaining friends and family, supporting charities and organizations in the DFW area, going on road trips with her daughter, tending her beautiful yard, spoiling her numerous feline children, and travelling the world with her beloved late companion, Major Thomas A. Spencer.

Martha was preceded in death by her two loves; her parents; brothers, Truett, James, Bud, Dwayne and twin brother, Ronnie Ragle; and sister, Marilyn Warren. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Rae Bailey; sister, Wanda Moran; sister-in-laws, Mary Ragle and Jimmie Ragle; brother-in-law, Dugan Warren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-9:45 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Alzheimer's Association.
