Marge Akimoto Obituary
Margitta "Marge" Akimoto died peacefully in her sleep on July 4, 2018, after a full and blessed life.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at St. Mark Lutheran Church followed by interment at Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells.
She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Stoessen, Germany, and grew up in Fritzlar and Homberg, Germany. She endured World War II as a teenager, was drafted into the German labor service working on a farm and then in a cargo aircraft manufacturing plant. In 1944 she began an internship to become a pharmacist, eventually becoming a pharmacist's assistant. In 1949 she met her future husband, Ralph Akimoto, an American soldier stationed in Fritzlar. They married in Washington, D.C., in 1954.
The Army took them to Fort Bragg, N.C., where she became an American citizen, Verdun, France, and Fort Wolters, Texas. She worked for many years as a medical receptionist in the offices of Dr. O'Quin and Dr. Boya. After retirement she volunteered with the Red Cross at Palo Pinto General Hospital, the Boyce Ditto Public Library and her beloved St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Margitta is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Morgan, of Fairfax, Va., and Bettina Akimoto, of San Antonio; son-in-law, U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.) Marc Morgan; and four grandchildren, U.S. Army Major Marcus Morgan, stationed in Japan with wife Noriko, Elizabeth and husband U.S. Army Captain Erik Criman, stationed in Hawaii, Kelly Morgan of Fredericksburg Va., and Casey Akimoto, of San Antonio; and two great-grandchildren.
