Louis Eugene Marr Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He is now at rest with his wife, Melba Marr.

Join us in celebrating Louis Marr's life at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 in Mount Olivet Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Homes, 2301 North Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas, immediately followed by a graveside service at Mount Olivet Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Pastor William Eudy. Family visitation and viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Mount Olivet Chapel -Greenwood Funeral Homes, 2301 North Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the Southside Church of Christ, Mineral Wells, Texas.

Pallbearers are great-grandsons, Greg Arwood, Ben King, Klay Marr, Reece Marr, Kolbin Mills, Randall Poore, and Chris Wedgeman.

Louis was born in Haskell, Texas on December 2, 1917, to Louis Eugene and Mattie Carothers Marr.

He was a decorated World War II Veteran. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1940, trained in Brownwood, Texas and Fort Sill, Oklahoma and fought in the Sicilian and Italian Campaigns which were probably the most intense days of his nearly six years in service.

Louis met Melba Thames in Moran, Texas, while on leave from his military training. Louis and Melba married January 9, 1943, in Breckenridge, Texas. After returning home from the war, Louis and Melba spent their early days in the Fort Worth and Haltom City area, until settling in Cool, Texas in 1965.

He worked as a painter in a paint and body shop for a few years, and then spent 30 years as a Painter for the Texas & Pacific Railway, which was later bought by the Missouri Pacific Railway. After his retirement from the railroad, he became President of Marr's Short Stops Convenience Stores for six years until he was fully retired. Louis continued to farm and ranch throughout his retired life and always maintained a garden and orchard. Louis had many interests and hobbies including daily Bible study, listening to music, playing checkers and dominoes. Earlier in his life he enjoyed metal detecting, woodworking, painting, snow skiing and traveling with Melba. Most of all he enjoyed the blessings of life, he lived life to the fullest and took the time to get to know others.

Louis was a man of great faith and was a longstanding member of the Southside Church of Christ, Mineral Wells, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Melba; sons, Randy Marr, Danny Marr, Ron Marr and wife, Betty; former daughter in-law, Sandra Marr; granddaughter, Carrie Marr Ray and husband, Rickey; step-great-grandson, Richard Ray; parents, Louis Eugene and Mattie Corathers Marr; and nine siblings.

Louis is survived by his son, Mike Marr and wife, Sharon of Whitt, Texas; grandchildren, David Marr and wife, Debbie of Mineral Wells, Texas, Randy Marr and wife, Monda of Arlington, Texas, DeeAnn Mills and husband, Tom of Cool, Texas, and Jeff D. Marr and wife, Alicia of Alvarado, Texas; step-grandchildren, Terry Scott Dale, and wife, Deanna of Rhome, Texas, and Kyra Dale-Ries and husband, Joe of Chicago, Illinois; 19 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He loved his family and found a special place in his heart for all. He is loved by many and will be dearly missed.
