Levon Anders

After a brief battle with cancer, friend of the community, Levon Anders, departed this life on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. He was born on Aug. 25, 1936, in Point, Texas, to Ruby Werts Anders and Frank Anders Jr. He was the oldest of six children born to Ruby and Frank. He attended primary school in Point and secondary school in Mineral Wells where he graduated from Dunbar High School. While a student at Dunbar, he became a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he served in several capacities over the years including as chairman of the Deacon Board and a Sunday School teacher for many years. While in high school, he started his working career as a busboy at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. He worked his way up to become a waiter. However, always having an entrepreneurial spirit, Levon went on to start and own many businesses throughout the years including Met-Fab.. After graduating from Dunbar High School, he married Effie Newsome. To this union, seven children were born. Levon was very active in the Mineral Wells community and the state of Texas through his work with Dunbar Neighborhood Council where he served as the Executive Director for over 40 years. He was also Master Mason and member of Mineral Star Lodge # 116. He went on to become a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the T.G. Givens Consistory #352. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church located at 616 SE Fourth Ave. in Mineral Wells. Burial will follow in Pollard Cemetery..
