Weatherford - 1934-2026

Phil Livingston, a well-known local writer, artist, and horseman, passed away surrounded by his family on March 29 in Weatherford, Texas.

He was born in Southern California and lived in China, Utah, Arizona, and Texas. He attended TCU; Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo); and Texas A&M universities; and the Chouinard Art Institute.

Phil was a rodeo cowboy, ranch cowboy, commercial artist, writer, leatherworker, fine artist, cartoonist, and advertising manager. His career included the Western Livestock Journal, Tex Tan Western Leather Company, and the American Paint Horse Journal.

Phil published hundreds of articles and numerous books, most centered on horses and the American West.

He lived in Weatherford since 1978. As a member of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse, he served in several capacities. He helped develop their annual rodeos into major events and started the western art show that they sponsor.

Phil is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Kate and husband Dave, Linda and husband Mark, and Jim and wife Kathy; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Phil was a horseman. In his words, "It's been a hell of a trip."

A memorial service will be held later in the year.
