James Thomas "J.T." Cox, 90, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in Flower Mound.. J.T. Cox was born July 24, 1920, in Garner, son of the late Revis O. and Nellie Phillips Cox. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of warrant officer in 1951. J.T. made his career with General Dynamics and retired after 31 1/2 years of dedicated service. He loved to read the classics and could quote Shakespeare. He loved Russian culture and literature and was a student of Christian history. Additionally, J.T. loved classical music and working in his yard.. J.T. graduated with the class of 1939, from Weatherford High School, attended Weatherford College and graduated cum laude from TCU in 1959. He was a lifetime member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church.. J.T. was from a very long line of early Parker County settlers; his grandfather, James Thomas Cox, was born in Parker County in 1854. J.T. was very proud of his Parker County heritage.. J.T. was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Cox, in 1987; daughter, Cynthia Cox, in 1961; sons, James Thomas Cox Jr. in 1999, and Robert Wayne Cox in 2002; parents; and brothers, Freddy and Darwin Cox.. Survivors include his wife, Irene Cox, of Flower Mound; sons, Dr. Bruce Cox and wife, Cheryl, of Big Spring, Dennis Cox of Rowlett, William Nazarenko Jr. and wife, Judy, of Cotter, Ark., and Warren Peter Nazarenko and wife, Dona, of Tunbridge, Vt.; daughters, Catherine Anne Sherwood of San Ramon, Calif., and Christine Dianne Eliseev and husband, Vladimir, of Flower Mound; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Alice Cox and Mary Ann Cox of Weatherford; and a host of loving family and friends.. Memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 N. Elm St., Weatherford.. In lieu of usual remembrances, the Cox family suggests contributions in J.T.'s memory to the Building Fund at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church.
