FORT WORTH - James Barrett "Dr. A" Aldridge, beloved science teacher at Fort Worth Country Day, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014.. Service: memorial service 3 p.m. Saturday, McKinney Memorial Bible Church.. James Barrett Aldridge was born on Aug. 31, 1953, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to William Solon and Cleo Barbara Whittenbeck Aldridge. A 1971 graduate of L.D. Bell H.S., Jim earned a B.S. from UTA. in 1975, an M.S. from UT Austin in 1977, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.. He taught one year at Millsap before beginning a lifelong career with Fort Worth Country Day in 1983. He married Therese Allen on Dec. 29, 1978, someone who shared his love and passion for education. A science "whiz" who specialized in biology, chemistry and computer science, Jim loved his students and was concerned for their well-being in becoming unique human beings. They shared many great school trips: among them, Costa Rica, Peru and the Bahamas.. Jim also won awards for his writings and photography. He loved to garden and grow orchids in their greenhouse; bike; read mysteries, especially Poirot; his ham radio; singing in the car, and he especially loved cats.
