FORT WORTH - James Barrett "Dr. A" Aldridge, beloved science teacher at Fort Worth Country Day, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014.. Service: memorial service 3 p.m. Saturday, McKinney Memorial Bible Church.. Memorials: Fort Worth Country Day Scholarship Fund, 4200 Country Day Lane, 76109, or an animal shelter of the giver's choice.. James Barrett Aldridge was born on Aug. 31, 1953, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to William Solon and Cleo Barbara Whittenbeck Aldridge. A 1971 graduate of L.D. Bell H.S., Jim earned a B.S. from UTA. in 1975, an M.S. from UT Austin in 1977, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.. He taught one year at Millsap before beginning a lifelong career with Fort Worth Country Day in 1983. He married Therese Allen on Dec. 29, 1978, someone who shared his love and passion for education. A science "whiz" who specialized in biology, chemistry and computer science, Jim loved his students and was concerned for their well-being in becoming unique human beings. They shared many great school trips: among them, Costa Rica, Peru and the Bahamas.. Jim also won awards for his writings and photography. He loved to garden and grow orchids in their greenhouse; bike; read mysteries, especially Poirot; his ham radio; singing in the car, and he especially loved cats. Survivors: his beloved wife of 35 years, Terry; his brothers and sisters, Mike Aldridge, Dave Aldridge and wife, Linda, Sharon Sleighter and husband, Damon, Kat Alexander and Pat Aldridge; and Terry's family, parents, Duke and Ann Allen; brothers, Andy Allen and wife, Paula, Dan Allen and wife, Michelle, Lee Allen and wife, Rita..
