Glen Bell Obituary

Glen Bell of Weatherford, Texas peacefully passed away in his home February 18, 2025 at the age of 97.

He was born May 1, 1927 to John and Blanche Bell in Sayer, Oklahoma. The family moved to California during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl era and Glen grew up in Oxnard, California. At 17, he joined the Navy and proudly served on a tugboat during World War II.

After military service, Glen attended St. Mary's College of California on a football scholarship. He earned degrees in history and physical education while playing running back for the Gaels. Though he had an opportunity to try out for the NFL, Glen saw an athletic young lady named Jean pitching at a softball game and decided to pursue her instead. The two were married on the Bride and Groom radio show in Hollywood and were just two days away from their 75th anniversary when he passed.

Glen worked in education, spending his career as a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor. He loved his family and spent his days raising horses, watching sports, and golfing at Las Posas Country Club. Glen was also an active member of the Elks Club in Oxnard. He attended Grace First Presbyterian Church in Weatherford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice; brothers Lonnie Gene and Grady Leon; and son in law, Richard.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Janet; son, Jon and his wife Lori; grandsons Connor, Robert, Carson and his wife Sarah; great grandchildren Selah, Samuel, and Justus; cousin Ruth, several nieces, and a nephew.

A small gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
