Weatherford, TX - WEATHERFORD - Dan L. Watkins, DVM, age 68, went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 30, 2025, while at home in Weatherford, Texas. Born on December 30, 1956, in Amarillo, Texas, Dan was a devout Christian, member of the Methodist Church, a loving father and devoted husband.

Dan graduated from Fountain Valley High School in Colorado, where he was one of the few recipients in the school's history to receive the Top Horseman award. He went on to play football for a year at Colorado State University before furthering his education at West Texas State University, where he received a Bachelor's of Animal Science. Dan continued his studies at Texas A&M University, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1984, setting the foundation for a lifetime of dedication and excellence in his profession of equine medicine. While at Texas A&M University, Dan met his wife Cindy of 41 years.

Dan and Cindy built, owned and operated Watkins Equine Breeding Center for over 20 years in Weatherford, Texas. Dan was passionate about equine medicine and enjoyed the friendships he had with his clients. Outside of work, Dan enjoyed spending time grilling with family and friends, baking during Christmas time, making memories with his family on vacations and Aggie football games. Dan will always be remembered as a loving husband, caring father, and loyal friend.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy; daughters, Danielle Watkins and Shannon Watkins; brothers, Dr. David Watkins and his wife, Sharon, of Pittsburgh, and Joe Watkins and his wife, Evonda, of Amarillo; nieces, Mandi Jackson, Alice Watkins-Conner, and Kelsee Lozier, all from Amarillo; and his cherished friends. He is reunited in Heaven with his father, Dr. Walter Watkins; mother, Alpha Mae Gamblin; stepfather, Dub Gamblin; and nephew, Daryn Watkins.

A funeral service celebrating Dan's life will be held on September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Weatherford, Texas; with a reception to follow at the church.
