Betty was born on December 19th, 1932, to Bevie and Stella Owens near Venus Texas. She departed this life on October 8th, 2023, at home in Mineral Wells Texas after 90 years of life very well lived and loved.
She spent her childhood in Venus with her parents and her brother Kenneth. Later the family moved to Fort Worth where Betty attended Polytechnic Senior High School. In her first marriage to Jim Townsend, she had a son, Carey Lee Townsend. Betty met the love of her life, Harold Marshall Couch, in Fort Worth and they were married in 1964. They moved to Mineral Wells and had a daughter, LeAnn, in 1965. The family attended First Christian Church of Mineral Wells for many years. She was also very involved in her local community, joining the Study Club, serving as an officer in the Zonta Club, and volunteering at Palo Pinto General Hospital. Betty also served on the board at Weatherford College. In 1996, Betty retired from Centron Corporation in Mineral Wells, a manufacturing company that she helped build and grow. After retirement she found a new passion that kept her connected to the community through two more successful businesses: the boutique stores Kids 'N' Things and Sissy's Four Graces. At her daughter's dance studio, Dancin Etc., Betty became a beloved familiar face working the front desk for many years. Betty loved to be surrounded by her family and friends whether at home or traveling, one of her greatest passions. Later in life she hosted an exchange student from Germany, Henrike Ehrhorn, who quickly became a dear member of the family.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Bevie and Stella, her brother Kenneth, her granddaughter Victoria Grace, and her husband Harold. She is survived by her daughter LeAnn Davis and her spouse Terrill, her grandchildren Jay Custodio-Davis and his spouse Douglas, Blaine Davis, and Trevor Davis, her great-grandchildren Logan and Olivia Custodio, and her beloved dog Coco who was always by her side.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 11AM on Saturday October 14th, 2023, in the Chapel of Chimes at Laurel Land Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A graveside service will be held immediately after.
