George's Story

Text size

George H. Frailey, 91, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Fort Worth peacefully while his hands were held by his wife Nellie and youngest son James.
He leaves four sons (David, Daniel, Paul, and James), eight grandchildren (Shannon, Christopher, Mark, Timothy, Sherri, Hannah, Asher, and Taylor), and four great-grandchildren (Ian and Devin Smith, Aiden, and Olivia).
George was born in Harvey, Illinois on July 18, 1926. He served our nation during the Korean War with the US Marine Corps. After he was discharged he studied engineering at Ohio State University, and met his wife Nellie of 61 years. It was also here that George met Jesus Christ while reading a New Testament. This forever changed the course of his life, those that have been blessed by his work and ministry. He and Nellie were married on Aug 27, 1955 and both felt called to spend the next three years attending the missions program at Moody Bible Institute. Next, they moved to New York where George attended and graduated from Hofstra University and, was then accepted by the State University of New York where he graduated in June of 1964 with a Doctor of Medicine.
In 1970 George and Nellie moved to Fairview Michigan, where he joined a medical practice in Mio Michigan along with hospital and surgery responsibilities at Tollfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch Michigan. They would call this area of Oscoda County home for the next thirty years. George was the quintessential "country doctor", frequently making house calls and accepting patients at all hours of the day or night. And, somehow, also finding time to serve as a stand-in pastor, a deacon, and adult sunday school teacher. In 2008 George and Nellie moved to Weatherford near his son James. George has touched the lives of many professionally and through his ministry for Christ.
