Bob was born September 19, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the sixth born of ten children to Robert E. and Frances Carver Murphey.
Bob graduated from Weatherford High School in 1971, attended Weatherford College, then transferred to Texas Tech University. Bob returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth-Weatherford area where he worked in the automotive parts business with David McDavid Dealerships and Toyota of Ft. Worth. His work demonstrated loyalty to his customers, who came to appreciate his honesty and exceptional expertise when it came to cars. He rarely vacationed from work: a hard-working and responsible man all of his life.
As a youngster, Bobby was always playing sports, Little League baseball, basketball, tennis, track, and football. He grew up with enough siblings to be a part of a ready-made baseball team in the Murphey backyard.
Throughout school, he lettered in all sports where he cemented many enduring friendships. After playing basketball for the Weatherford College Coyotes, Bob's sports focus turned to golf. He was a student of the game with his natural gifts in athletics, he lived to play golf.
Bob was a longtime member of McKinney Bible Church, where he greeted visitors with a cheerful smile. Robert will be remembered as a man who demonstrated humility, kindness, civility, generosity, and a willingness to help others. He was passionate about sports, faithful to his job, a gentleman who could also be philosophical. During his most trying days, he never complained and showed grace and courage under pressure.
