Monty Ray Singletary

Monty Ray Singletary, age 90 of Weatherford, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 surrounded by his family. Monty was born December 2, 1928 in Long Camp, Texas to Dale and Mary (Tommy) Singletary. As a young man, he joined the armed forces and proudly severed his country in the United States Navy and could often be found looking for a boxing match to participate in. After being discharged from the Navy, Monty worked for General Dynamics as an Electrical technician and later became a local businessman, opening Singletary Furniture in 1977 and working there until 1990.
Upon retirement, his main job was keeping up with "the place"- mowing, farming and riding his tractors. He loved spending time with his family, reading (especially world records books and facts), talking with his friends at the Ranger Stop, solving riddles and completing puzzles. He was a jokester and was always scheming up tricks to play on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of South Main Church of Christ and made friends everywhere he went. Monty is survived by his wife, Lillie Singletary, of nearly 65 years, his son, Mike Singletary and his wife, Danell, of Weatherford, his daughter, Shannon Burks and her husband, Tommy, also of Weatherford, grandchildren Rachael Frazier, Lawton Burks, Mikevin Singletary, Bryce burks and Olivia Burks, great-grandchildren Charlee Kai, Chapel, Irelynd, Estes, Kollin and one on the way. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14th at 10:00 am in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford.
