BURLESON Merlin Eugene Scott, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood.
Merlin was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Sweetwater to O.M. "Bill" Scott and Nett I. Scott. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1943. Merlin married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Hudgins in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. When he returned, he worked for Western Windmill before he moved to Abilene. He went to work for West Texas Wholesale in Abilene and stayed with the company until his retirement in 1999. They moved to Weatherford in 1981 and lived there until Dorothy's death in 2013. After retirement, Merlin worked at Gibsons, Sands Propane, Carter Ivy and was an Optimist. He and Dorothy were lifetime members of the Church of Christ spending the last 36 years at South Main in Weatherford. Merlin loved his family and all his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy; and his parents.
Survivors: Son, Harold and wife, Belinda; daughters, Kay Garrett and husband, Larry and Kandy Johnson and husband, Danny; granddaughters, Crystal Bolding and husband, Craig, Holly DeGroot and husband, Chris, Jill Garrett and Autumn Scott; grandson, Josh Garrett; great-grandsons, Coby and Caden Bolding, Braden Knight and Braxton Scott; and numerous community and church friends.
