Karen Grogan Turley passed away peacefully after a very long illness at home on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Karen was born April 19, 1956, in Weatherford. She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1973 and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Weatherford. She attended The University of Texas and has been a Longhorn at heart ever since. Soon after college, she attended paralegal school and went to work at the Turley Law Firm in 1983 where she met her husband of 31 years, Gary Turley. In 1990 Gary and Karen moved to Yukon, Oklahoma where they have lived for 27 years. They enjoyed traveling together for many years. Karen loved gardening and cooking the vegetables she had grown. She loved UT, the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed watching football. Karen had a zest for life and loved spending time with family and friends as well as caring for her dogs.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Benjamin and Barbara Jean Grogan. She leaves behind her husband, Gary, and step-daughter, Jennifer Turley of Yukon; sister, Kathie Grogan Smyrl and husband, Danny, of Weatherford; and brother-in-law, Windle Turley and wife, Shirley, of Dallas.
Karen was loved by her nephew, Doug Dowd and wife, Kristy, of Weatherford; nephew, Jerod Smyrl, of Oklahoma City; niece, Lindsay Fry and husband, Jason, of Weatherford; niece, Linda Turley of Dallas, and nephew, Ron Turley of Dallas; seven great nephews and nieces, Kaden, Isaiah, and Emma Dowd, Aidan and Carson Fry, Lacey Turley Most and husband, Zack, and Ronald Turley. She is also remembered by her great family friends, Rick and Diane Hooper and Kerri Alford of Yukon, as well as many wonderful cousins.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 301 South Main Street, in Weatherford.
