Jane Shilling Hicks, of Weatherford, went home with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 26, 2017. She left this world peacefully at 89 years of age surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1928 in Fort Worth to Dewey and Grace Shilling. Jane was the fourth of five children. She was known for her banty rooster spirit as a child. She attended Poly Tech High School. At the age of eighteen she went to work as telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She retired with thirty-six years of service in May of 1985.
She married Joe L. Hicks Jan. 21, 1949. In their early years they ran the Hicks Egg Empire. Together they had three children; Patrick, Michael, and Harold Hicks. During her retirement she was a member of the Pioneers Club where she volunteered her time in many different areas. She was actively involved in several food ministries, senior clubs, and church outreach ministries. She enjoyed hard work on her family farm, working puzzles, serving others, and spending time with her grandkids. Her smile and belly laugh were contagious to all around.
She was greeted in Heaven by her beloved husband, son, parents, brothers and sisters, mother-in-law; brother-in-law; and sister-in-law.
Her legacy lives on through her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family by choice.
