James Rex Woodard, age 95, of Weatherford, died Saturday, July 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
The funeral service is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, July 31, 2017, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel.
Rex, as he was called, was born on March 4, 1922, in Snyder, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II during which he saw combat on Okinawa. He retired from Texas Power & Light Co. in 1976 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the South Main Church of Christ for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Leech and husband, Gary, of Tennessee; Carol Adams, of Weatherford; Marcelle Weinstein, of Austin; sister, Letha Merritt, of Lubbock; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His wife of 67 years, Era Mae Foster Woodard, preceded him in death in 2014. Rex was also preceded in death by his parents John and Dessie Woodard and his sisters Muriel Grubbs and Emma Razor.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice Plus and Hilltop Park Rehabilitation Center for the loving and compassionate care they provided to their loved one.
