Gary Wayne's Story
Gary Wayne Adkins, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Weatherford on July 7, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Gary served with distinction in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. His courage and bravery resulted in his award of the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in military action against an enemy of the United States. Gary retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 30 years of dedicated services.
His loving memories will remain alive by his wife, Roma McFarland Adkins, of Weatherford; daughter, Lori Russ, and husband, Richard, of Oklahoma; sister, Kathy Parker and husband, Freddie, of Fort Worth; son, Gary Adkins, Jr, of Illinoi; stepdaughter, Jenafur Stidom and daughter, Callia Stidom; stepson, Michael Bellows, all of Weatherford; grandsons, Gibson and Mason Russ; his loving dog Jake; and numerous other family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Ray Adkins and Thelma Rae Johnson.
Gary was a strong supporter of the United States military and supported the Assist Dog for Veterans program. He loved the outdoors and loved to camp, fish and cherished riding his Harley Davidson. Gary dedicated his life to helping others.
His last request was that his body be donated to science in hopes of helping others fight disease and illnesses.
A celebration of Gary's life will be scheduled at a later time and date.
