Fred Davies, 81, or Weatherford TX passed away June 18, 2019. He was born Sept. 25, 1937 in Greenwich Conn.
Fred was an outstanding athlete at Stamford High School where he played baseball and was a fullback on the football team.
After graduation, Fred went into the Marine Corp. He spent time in Japan and Korea. He was trained as a sharpshooter. When he was discharged, he attained the rank of sergeant.
Nov. 7, 1964 he married Mary. He went to work as a truck driver. After 27 years he retired from Jack Cooper.
Fred was a gold card member of the PRCA. As a youngster he rode bulls. He matured into a calf roper and a bull dogger. Later, he became a regular at the senior team ropings. He was also a lifetime member of the Parker County Sheriffs Posse.
Fred always had a contagious smile, an incredible sweet tooth and a knack for conversation. He loved his time spent with friends and family. He adored his 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 54 years, his daughter and sons in law, Lisa and Michael Smith, sons and daughter in laws Ray and Mary Arnold and Doug and Robin Arnold, and 2 sisters Doreen Karcher and Lynn Davies.
A memorial will be held for Fred on Saturday, June 29 at 10 AM at Holders Chapel United Methodist Church

I've lost another of the "John Wayne"s of my youth. Fred was a great friend of my Dad's. A big strong man with integrity and honor. My prayers go out to Mary and Lisa, and to all who loved and cherished him as a friend. Rest in peace, dear Fred.
