She was born on Jan. 25, 1914, in Colorado City, TX to Charlie Houston and Florence Ann Ford Garner. She spent time every day reading her bible. She instilled her love for Jesus in all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was not only beautiful inside and out, but had a talent for creating beautiful poetry to suit the occasion. She always included a poem in her birthday cards to children and grandchildren along with a $5 bill until the recipient turned 18. Then she considered them grown.
Mirl spent many years serving the children of her communities as school bus driver, cafeteria server and her final service to children was spent at Weatherford College serving as dorm mother for the college students, where Weatherford College honored Mirl and her husband, Henry, by naming the college dorm "Springfield Hall."
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carla Cobb, Shannon Spoon Bell, Shawna Collins, and Loretta Fulbright.
Mirl was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Houston and Florence Garner; siblings, Robert, Ruby, Lillis (Bill), Pearl (Pete), Charlie; son, Jerris Springfield; and grandsons, Donny Springfield and David Springfield.
