Don's Story

Text size

Don LaRue Torbett, 81, our Dad, passed away on Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, 2016, joining Mom in eternity after sharing 52 years together in marriage on Earth and being blessed with three children and four grandchildren.
Dad retired from the US Postal System as a city carrier. Dad was a hard working individual, had a servant's heart and loved to drive up until a stroke changed that. His family were the recipients of that love of driving and were blessed to see much of the USA via an automobile. Many areas visited were places in which we had extended family.
Missing him and cherishing those memories are his two daughters, Donna Montgomery and her children, Afton and Blake Montgomery, and Vickie and Don Sherman and their daughters, Brooke and Adrianne Sherman. He is also survived by his older brother, Waymond and wife Wanda; sister and brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his son, Jerry; his parents; and sister, Audrey Kilgo.
A celebration of his life and memorial service will be Friday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
Family visitation will be Thursday evening before from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Don with a donation to Meals on Wheels of Parker County or your favorite charity.
The family would like to thank Holland Lake Nursing Center and Kindred Hospice for their very kind and compassionate care with Dad and to the family.
