Charles Henry Howell went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 29, 2017, at age 88.
Born in Floydada, TX in 1928, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruby Dorothy Howell; parents Moss and Hattie Howell; and 2 siblings, Herbert and Karen.
Along with a beautiful legacy of faith, Charles leaves behind his loving companion of nearly 5 years, Carol Zager, of Weatherford, TX; 6 children: son Dennis and wife Lynette, of Amarillo; daughter Darla Stookey, of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter Risa Hardin and husband Dwight, of Bridgeport; son Kevin and wife Karla, of White Deer; son Kent, of Dallas; daughter April Hazlewood, of Ft. Worth; 7 siblings: Jack and wife Charlene; Jimmie and wife Sue; Oran and wife Barbra; Susie Enloe; Gail Stovall and husband Melvin; Linda Bethea and husband Marvin; and John and wife Colleene; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Charles and Ruby spent their early years farming land in Friona, TX. From there, Charles became the owner of a Texaco Bulk Dealership in Drumright, OK, followed by an International Harvester Dealership for 9 ½ years in Panhandle, TX. While there, he served as mayor for one term.
He and Ruby eventually retired to Weatherford, TX. In every community where they lived, they were active in the local church and mostly enjoyed time with family members near and far.
Late in life, Charles took a job as a greeter at Wal-Mart, where his smile and welcome drew special visits from customers of all ages. Love for His Lord and love for every person he met shone through Charles' smile and laughter. He believed in and taught his family the value of hard work and always gave thanks to God for his many blessings.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 117 Ranch House Road, Willow Park, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the following charitable organizations: Alaska Missions, PO Box 230851, Anchorage, AK 99523 (include in check memo: "ST1212"); and Church Starts International, 301 S. Graham Street, Henrietta, TX 76363.
